Will my character change when I get my bike

The coastal roads in North Norfolk are ideal for cycling ... not flat but slightly undulating and narrow. On my usual drive to 'breakfast' duties at my mother's this morning, I reflected on how it might be when I e-bike this journey on behalf of the environment (and my wallet). (All this, of course, is dependant on the Electric Transport Shop in Cambridge receiving my Wisper very soon!!!). Life is lived at a slow pace here; the local people are courteous and friendly. We greet each other as we pass on the street and wave if we pass in a car.
As the roads are narrow, it is common practice to slow down, even stop, for cars approaching from the opposite direction. I slowed down to a crawl for two horse riders this morning ... and received a friendly smile and a thank you wave in return. I stopped to let a neighbour and her children cross the road to their 4x4 and received a cheery Thank You.
Then two cyclists headed toward me. As it had rained and there were a number of wide puddles in the carriageway, I slowed down to give them a wide berth and avoid splashing them. Reaction? None! I assume they were visitors and don't know of our quaint ways here ... or perhaps they were concerned they might wobble if they smiled.
Oh well; my Mother was pleased to see me!
Note to Self: Continue to be courteous on the road when you are riding your e-bike!

Full report on my Wisper 905sel when I 've had it a couple of weeks ... I promise!

I'm afraid there are quite a few cyclists who can only think evil of all car drivers Don, the concept of a helpful and considerate driver not possible within their conciousness. They exist in every area and it's perhaps understandable, given the existence of a sizable proportion of selfish and thoughtless oafs driving cars.

You express a fair point, Flecc. I hadn't appreciated the extent of 4-wheeled oafishness.
Never mind, whether driving or riding I will endeavour to lead by example and hope it catches on with the majority of 4-wheel and 2-wheel users of the road.

When I have my Wisper 905sel, I will overtake the lycra crowd with a cheery wave and wish them a Good Day! Or have I misread the mood here?

Have a nice day!

Don

Will your character change? Of course, but only for the better! You'll smile more for a start. You'll revel in the beauty of the landscape, you'll murmur kind words to elderly snails as you sail gently past. You will become more human. Trust me, I'm an e-biker too! Nurse! Sedatives NOW, please ...
:)

Exactly my attitude Don, I use courtesy no matter what the behaviour of others. Example is much more effective than many realise. I never like to see or hear references to competing for road space since it's fundamentally a wrong attitude. We should share road space, not compete for it.

I realise you say that in jest but beware of tackling a decent lycra clad cyclist. I went after one once to see how good/bad I would be against a decent cyclist. On the steeper climbs I reckon I was catching slightly but on the flat roads and less steep climbs he was away. He left me well behind and disappeared from vie
w quite quickly.

Thank you ... we all appear to be in accord!
