Why Cant I add Photos to a PM?

I can add photos to a post but in a PM I am asked for a URL... Can anyone offer an easy explanation? Pretty Please!

pic uploads dont work in pm so you will have to up load elsewhere then copy a link.

As to why, perhaps because its private communication and might conceal use of copyright images. Uploading from a URL reveals source.
