Which kit and where to buy

Hi... I am converting my genesis latitude mountain bike to an e bike. I want to use it as a work horse for towing a trailer and general shopping duties plus a bit of off road fun. So a few questions..

Rear wheel or crank motor? 500 or 1000w? I live in a fairly hilly area and I'm looking at pulling a fair bit of weight...

Which make.. Cyclotricity, bafang etc?

Where to source parts, there's so many different suppliers, it's confusing!?

Ok..so I live in Asturias in the mountains. I want to convert my mountain bike to an e bike. I want to pull cargo in a trailer to get shopping etc. So heavy loads over 20 miles or so. I would also like to use the bike for a bit of off roading too. My main question is which drive to use, rear wheel or crank driven? Also I am finding the plethora of suppliers confusing so wondered if anyone had any suggestions on where to source from.

You should have a nominal 250w motor to be legal on the road. They can actually give much more power for short periods than the rated power. A lot of the bigger rated motors are quite a bit less efficient as well; many are direct drive rather than geared. If it is fairly flat you should be find with front, rear or crank drive. If it is hilly crank drive means the motor will work through the hears and so be more efficient on hills. More wear on the drivetrain that way, though.

Heavy doesn't really mean anything. How heavy are the loads? How heavy are you? How fast do you want to go? How hard do you want to pedal? How legal do you want it to be?

If you want to do any serious off-roading, then it has to be a crank-drive. A hub motor is normally better on the road.

I can't see any problems to fit any kit to your bike.

Ok so you're in north west Spain. There is another member (Anotherkiwi) who lives on the French/Spanish border. He has said many times that the Spanish police are very hot on e-bike compliance and have been known to confiscate. So I would stick to the legal 250w nominal rating. Also do not fit a throttle - not allowed.
I guessing it's mountainous where you are so I would think a Bafang bbs01 or bbs01b, to drive through the gears. To answer vfr 400's questions: I am 75kg, I will be pulling 20-30kg, I'm happy to pedal hard, I'm not too worried about legalities as I live fairly ruraly. As for suppliers it doesn't matter where the are, I am often in the UK, so UK suggestions would be fine.

I would suggest my 48V TSDZ2 crank drive kit with torque sensor.
it's easy to fit, has high torque and road legal.
