Which folding electric bike to replace Mu P8?

Hi,
I sold my Dahon Mu P8 conversion a year ago after 7 years of good use. After buying a Woosh Sports CD (now sold on), I realised that I much prefer the convenience & maneuverability of small wheels & a folding frame. I've now boiled the MU replacement down to following bikes & would welcome the experience of anyone on the forum who owns or has maybe tried one out. There is a range of prices from the cheaper to more expensive but which would all in principle meet my needs i.e. Leisure rides of up to 25 miles, occasional storage is back of small hatchback (Hyundai i10) & moderately hilly terrain - Yorkshire Wolds.
1. Halfords Coyote connect - only 24 volts, but then so was my Dahon & that was fine. Gets good reviews on Halfords site although gearing a bit low (I like to be able to pedal above 15.5 without power on the flat). Even with spare battery & upgraded gears would still be less that £1000.00.
2. A2B Kuo+ - Fairly light bike with good web reviews. Smallish battery but probably adequate for my needs. Doesn't really excite me but ticks the right boxes.
3. Dahon Vitesse conversion from CH White & son - same place as I got by Dahon Mu which was an excellent bike. Used in all weathers & stored under a car port for 7 years! No problems ever with the electrics. What puts me off is that the new versions seem a bit cumbersome with the bigger batteries & the Vitesse doesn't have the style of the old Mu.
4. BH Emotion Volt - This is at the top end of my price range. It's the one I like best for style but seems quite pricey for a 9 amp bike. I understand from web reviews that the 12 amp battery is compatible which would suit me better but add even more to the price.I could maybe test the Coyote at Halfords in York but there aren't dealers available anywhere near where I live for the others. After selling the Woosh, I had a very unsatisfactory experience with a specially commissioned custom conversion which I do not want to go into detail about but which resulted in a full refund. It has put me off going down this route again with the exception of CH White & son whose conversions I trust from past experience.

The Volt looks to be best part of £2K so you could also consider a converted Brompton.

I recently sold my Brompton Nano, excellent, well-engineered kit, but like Brompton bikes, not cheap.

Others will be able to advise on cheaper Brompton conversions.

Halfords don't do test rides.

I agree with you about C H White, proper bike shop who know what they are doing with ebikes and conversions.

Thanks Rob,
We do have a Brompton which is my wife's bike. It is a great bike but I do prefer the slightly bigger 20" wheels (I did once ask her whether we could convert it - the answer was a resounding No!).

Could you add our Kudos Secret,I am out of the UK at the moment but the latest model Secret MK2 should be out now. We just refined the bike as a result of customer feedback.
The light weight of the Secret is useful when handling the bike.
Some while ago we increased the chain ring diameter to 52 teeth to lower cadence at cruise speed and fitted a double height seatpost a la Brompton.
I am out in Asia at the moment at a cycle show and still can't find anything to better the Secret, certainly nothing lighter.

Hi Dave,
Is the Secret mk2 up on your website? The concern I had with the Secret was that the 8 amp battery might be too small. Has the capacity increased with the new model?

John, the battery is the same size on the MK 2...,I get 20 miles plus out of my Secret,in very steep terrain....these bikes are all a compromise,if I increase the battery size,I increase the weight,at 18 kgs it is very handy to lift about. The battery on the Secret is an oblong section,it is very light,I suppose you could put a spare battery on the rear rack, only on those days when you intend to go more than 20 miles, potentially you would have 40 mile range, our spare battery price is not expensive.

none of the bikes above has the power and range of the woosh zephyr-B which can still be put in the back of your i10. IIt's a good bike and inexpensive.
