Which ebike?

Hi All,

I'm very new to electric bikes and since I have moved closer to my work (5 miles down the road) I've decided to cycle in. However, the terrain is very hilly and I don't want to arrive sweaty etc for work especially as we have no showers. So I've decided to look into an e-bike, but I have no idea which are the better brands, and which mechanism is better,hub vs drive train ?

I was looking at the momentum electric upstart since i can source it locally. I'm not sure how it will cope on hills as its a hub motor and have read they're not to great on slopes? The bike does look great though.

Also was possibly thinking of a Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony not only is this a recommended brand but also uses a drive train which are apparently better on slopes

Any suggestions much appreciated. My budget is around £1000 tops

Deece...there are massive variations of the performance of different hub motors. If you want to spend up to £1000 then it excludes all of the best of the crank drive bikes,these are normally £1600 upwards. Blatantly pushing my own product ,the Kudos Tornado at £1095.00 with its BPM hub motor,is for the money spent the best hill climber around.
Where are you located I have a number of dealers around the UK who have stock Tornados for you to test. At least it will give you a benchmark to compare with other bikes.

It's the only one under £1000 with hydraulic brakes. Plus it folds.

The Momentum bikes are nice, I can recommend them. However I would recommend trying a few different brands out to see what bike would suit you best. Also test the Momentum out, most places will let you try one to see whether it will do what you need. One defintion of very steep can vary to another. It also depends how much effort you can put it.

Welcome to the forum Deece.
Of the bikes presented above the Ezee is cheaper and has a 2 year warranty, its hub is extremely powerful for a legal setup, I rode one earlier this year and was very surprised by its performance.
A crank drive is great if your hills are extremely steep otherwise the Ezee will get you to work without even having to breath hard
Plus with an e-bike if you want to increase your fitness just hammer the pedals on the way home for a faster healthier ride.
