Sorry I imagine this has been asked a hundred times but I am completely new to teh world of electric bikes

My wife has ME which means she is very limited with physical energy. We are looking into getting an electric bike so we can cycle along relatively flat off road cycle routes

Can anyone recommend a type of bike to get - she would be able to pedal a little bit but
would need to be able to rely on the electric bike so that she doesn't over exhert herself

Many thanks

We need a bit more info:
How tall is she?
How heavy is she?
How much do you want to spend?
Where do you live?

Whatever the answer to these questions, it sounds like you need a bike with an independent throttle so that she can cruise for a bit without any pedal effort in case she gets tired.

In the meantime, check out Woosh bikes, which are very reasonably priced for what you get, and they're nice people to deal with. They have shops in Southend and Cambridge, and sell by mail order. For not too much more money there's a lot of nice bikes from Juicy, Oxygen, Kudos. Then for a bit more is the Ezee Sprint LDS, which is about the most powerful ladies bike, which can tackle very steep hills (that you don't have?).

Electric Bike Buyers Guide is out on the shelves of most major newsagents and is a good source of information on the main brands in the UK market.

You can now see our review in all its detail at this link

The publication is well worth the £5.99 charged and can be purchased on-line at this link

There is no substitute for a test ride so choose a specialist e-bike shop near you with a good range to try and wander off on one, away from the sales people!

Hube...at risk of being accused of promoting my bikes I will try to generalise my reply...
Look for a bike that has a speed sensor rather than a torque sensor-the latter requires you to put energy in to get power out-that pretty much eliminates all the Bosch powered bikes.
Look for a bike that has a crank drive but with speed sensor-that allows slow progress up hills in low gears with maximum torque.
Look for a bike that has a throttle to help on hill starts.
Look for a bike that is not too heavy, ideally no more than 22kg to aid handling
Look for a bike that has a short seat stem so that the rider can easily put their feet down.
Look for a bike that has easy brakes-hydraulic helps because of the higher velocity ratio of the hydraulics.
Does that help.
