Which Battery for a Raleigh Array E-bike?

I'm just wondering whether anyone can help me? I have just purchased a Raleigh Array step through e-bike. I purchased it for a bit of fun during lockdown and I have had the bike for a week, but have been unable to ride the bike, as I have no charger for the battery. The bike arrived and the battery had one bar of charge so I was unable to ride it and there was no charger included with the bike. It just was not there. I have tried contacting the bike shop several times, but they never reply, so I am trying to find out what charger I should purchase. I bought one on Amazon and it was incorrect, so have wasted £20 on that. The battery has Raleigh written on the side of it and it is a 36v Suntour batter - what the Raleigh Array's come with. There is a charging point on the side that is small and has space for a small 3 pin charger. I would be grateful if anyone knows which charger I should purchase and where I can get one form. Thanks

Oh dear what a shoddy service, you won't be able to buy a charger with that Suntour connector from just anywhere. Looks like you will have to keep trying the shop/dealer, try emailing them if possible.
The charger I believe is about £90 and the Halfrauds Carrera's with Suntour probably use the same one.

Okay, thanks for that. I purchased it from Cyclerepublic and have repeatedly e-mailed them about the fact that there was no charger with the bike and I can't use it. In desperation I left messages on Halford Facebook page and they have actually got back to me, however my very local store is closed at present, so it would mean travelling further to get to a store that was open.

I just find it ridiculous that charging point on the battery seems to be different to anything else that I have ever had and you simply can't get a charger for the battery. I am so angry about the lack of response that I actually feel like sending the whole bike back.

I have another charger coming today and a guy online that told me he could get me a charger, but I feel that for the price of an electric bike, I should not have to pay extra for a charger.

Do you know if any other battery is compatible with that bike that has a different charger that I could swap for? I am just not getting anywhere with Cyclerepublic and they have not replied to any of the 4 odd e-mails I have sent them.

Thank again.

I can understand your frustration. Halfords announced in mid-march that they are in the process of closing all 22 Cycle Republic stores (although some say Pure Electric will be taking over 11 of them), but I can't imagine any of CR's 226 staff will be too motivated to help you at the moment.

You could also try approaching Raleigh direct?

If you really are prepared to pay for a replacement charger yourself, you could talk to PowaTechnic; I think this is the one you need, but best to call them to make sure first:

Stop wasting your money buying chargers unless you know 100% it supports your battery.
Some bike systems just aren't worth considering in imho.
Halfords who own Cycle republic have said the name will go so I can only assume they them themselves who will take over warranty duties, keep on trying CR and badger Halfords until you get your charger.

Okay, thanks for that. I have been in contact with Halford. I left a message on their Facebook page and someone has been getting back to me and said they will get a manager to ring me, so I will see, but the link you pointed to does look like the correct one. I think I ordered the larger one from Amazon before, but the smaller one looks right.

Thanks

Okay, thanks I am keeping on with Halfords until I can get a resolution. I have printed out all the documentation that Cyclerepublic sent me and I might take them and just go into my local Halfords store and ask them to give me a charger free of charge.

What are your recommendations for the best e-bike then?

Thanks.

There is no best ebike because most do what they are intended for or to do.
A 10k model isn't much better then a 1k model in the fact they will both work, the 10k will use different build material. You pay a high price for a lighter bike, brand name and stylish looking bike, the motor battery might be more innovative with less demand so prices are higher. Components will be lighter higher grade (means more expensive) but they will all work to a point for their intended market use.

Personally I would look for CS and how a company deals with issues over brand, price or locality.
You only have to see on here how many have had issues with Halfords and the Suntour bike system, though Halfords aren't admitting anything openly they are refunding, exchanging or upgrading bikes for others.

In the pedelecs world or esp on here the independent brands have high respect and regards for their bikes brand as they are knowledgeable about them and only selll their own design which they know back to front, though they tend to be the least fashionable against the big branded names.
Woosh, Wipser, Juicy, Oxygen are just four to mention.

The issue with ebikes is when something goes wrong buyers get frustrated and angry because someone hasn't done their job properly, a good company will sort out issues promptly or within a good time line and contacting them shouldn't be an issue.
In your case once you get the charger you be get good use of the bike and put the experience behind you, to get what you want badger is the only option and try every day so they don't just sit and rest on their laurel's.
Don't be fobbed off by the manager will call routine badger until you speak to one, keep on at them.
We know they are all busy with demand out stripping supply but that doesn't mean they should ignore current customer issues or complaints, don't be rude or blow your top, keep your head and be civil have all the facts and paper work details as you have. Going in to store might help but as they didn't originally supply the bike form the store may not or may be helpful, ask to see the manager to see if they can put wheels in motion.

For such service, you should return the bike.
Did you pay with a credit card or Paypal, as you should be contacting them as well.
You only just got the bike, and this is probably the BEST service you can ever expect.....sadly!

Can I ask whats happened since ?

Im sure you would have returned it by now , but if not then made some contact with the firm who sold it to you .. and if u cant get the answer back then take your case to

i was about to say the Judge in the Sunday newspaper in Scotland as then u would have got joy ..but anyhow sure is someone similar in England and Wales or N Ireland
and id take this further and this firm wont want a bad name opened out to all
but if they are at it then open the name of this firm up for all to view as they wouldn't want this as then lose much custom ..but hey only if what your saying is true that no battery was inside the package at all ..

and as you have kept the proof of purchase and so take this all the way
as you shall win your case id reckon if you are telling facts

Meanwhile all the best and good to let all know on the forum how u got on
with this, as u have been treated terribly . All the best meantime ..

Hi there

I have had similar issues with a different retail chain and you need to keep on their case if they aren't taking it seriously.
The law is on your side and I strongly suggest you make them aware of this.

Under the "sale of goods act" goods must be "fit for purpose" As you have not been supplied with the charger it fails this test.
Goods must be "as described" and on their website it is included in the description so it fails to this test.

You have the right to reject the goods and receive a full refund.

If they don't sort it quickly contact your credit card company and talk to trading standards.
Hope you get sorted soon.
