Which bafang mid drive kit to buy?

We have been using our rear hub drive kit now for seven years and they have been very reliable. Both our bikes had the 350w rear hub motor and a ping 20ah battery also on the rear. This made the bike very tail heavy and I have been thinking about changing them to a bafang mid drive kit.

Would prefer to stick to 36v so as to use our original battery for now and thought about the bafang bbs02b 36v 500w mid drive kit. Is it better than say the bbso1b 350w or what would be recommended?

Only used for pleasure on mainly cycle paths but usually a bit hilly.

Probably best to go for the 500w version. If you find it a bit too powerful for your liking, you can always detune it with a programming cable. If you buy the 350w and find it underpowered, then yer stuffed

the 250W version (BBS01B) is the one for reliability,
BBS01B has 15A controller instead of 25A controller, a lot less stress on your battery.

I had a Ping 48v 15Ah battery, using a 30 amp controller and maxing it most of the time. That battery was still working great after a few years, so don't worry about stressing your 20Ah Ping, they're good batteries.
