Hi all. Totally new to all of this. Ive had a replacement hip and have been told cycling would be a good way to exercise. However im not exactly a light wieght and i live in Cornwall in the Uk where the hills are impressive.
So i thought id buy an Ebike to help with said hills.... fortunately i know a couple of peeps with them and borrowed one. It doesnt have the umph to get a 110KG bloke up them hills.

And so i thought id build my own... and then i realised just how specialist bikes are.

So i bought a Canyon 6 in the sale with 30% off on the recommendation of a friend only to find out that the Bafang 615 will only work properly with a 9 speed cassette or smaller and the canyon is SH12. i also understand that i need a special chainwheel with the correct tooth pattern to work with the SH12 that i have?

Does anyone know of a combination to get this config to work? i assume that to get the 12 cassette to work that im going to need to offset the chain wheel ? I can be the first person experiencing a bafang/12 speed combination.

Any help much appreciated.

Have you bought the Bafang 615 ? I'm not sure if there is an option to use 12 speed - there is also the Tongshen mid drives - they might be a possibility - maybe ask @Woosh

Is there any option to return the bike and get your money back ? I'm not sure I would choose to start off with a 12 speed donor bike to turn into a e-bike ( you don't need 12 gears on an e-bike). Other options would be to change the cassette , derailleur and shifter . Are you using it for roads, trails or serious mountain biking ? I suppose a front hub motor is a possibility

The 615 is a pretty powerful beast. It would put a big load on a 12 speed chain, expect short chain life if you do get it to work.

It's also not legal as a UK pedalec as it's rated at 750 or 1000W, well above the UK 250W rated maximum. You may or may not care about that.

Is there enough clearance between the chainstay and the chainwheel to fit any BBS**? It looks like there isn't.

If you want a bike for conversion, any old used bike would be better than that one. Something like a 2012 Carrera Kraken for about £150 would be good or any similar bike.

i am where i am now, the guy advising me has this same setup, but he has only just told me about a chafing issue on the chain set, which i assume is to do with the offset on the chainwheel. im an engineer and ill sort it one way or another, ive had the bike to long to send it back and the bafang will be here tomorrow. Volstrom who provided the kit say that i should be able to buy a high offset chainwheel for it and have sent me a link, i waiting for a reply.

Thanks for your kind reply

Don't forget to check the clearance. The standard one is going to be tight.

Ok running forward now, im in touch with Lekkie and they think ill get it to work. but in the meand time, i have the kit installed and running but me shimano chin of course is not compatible with the bafang stock chainring that i have. The lekkie 42T is compatible with the sram eagle, but i cant find any information on what the stock bafang is compatible with.
Does anyone know if the bafang will run on the sram eagle until i can source the lekkie chain ring
