Waterproofing?

As reported on another thread, I had a problem which proved to be caused by water in the electrics. The bike is okay now it's dried out, but clearly it's desireable to have a bike that can cope with rain!

I was wondering about giving all the electrical parts a liberal spraying with WD40. Does anyone do this, and find it useful? Is there any reason why I shouldn't? (I've already figured out that it needs to be kept away from wheel rims & tyres... don't think it would improve braking any...)

It won't do any harm as long as you don't spray it directly into the works anywhere, like the controller. If you overdo it it might attract dirt to stick though, but it will help to repel water trying to seep into cable insulation etc.
