Warranties

Featured Replies

i know that this has raised its ugly head before, but are warranties transferable between owners? Or are warranties a contract between the selling "agent" and the buyer? I thought the manufacturer had to bear some responsibility but e-bikes seem to be a grey area.

If they are transferable can you tell me what makes allow that ?

The reason I ask is I've seen a used Riese and Muller Avenue with Gates belt. It's around £1900 and the seller claims he bought it as an ex demo and it's only 6 months old with 9 miles on the clock.

Also does the panel have any views on this price? He claims its around £3800 new so is asking half price.

They are not normally transferable, only applying to the original purchaser.

Some companies have provisions for transfering a warranty, subject to safeguards. For example the Wisper warranty is transferable if the sale goes through a Wisper dealer. I assume that is a safeguard to ensure the bike was in a condition commensurate with its age and fit for service at the time of sale.

Since the Riese and Muller brand is represented by AMPS e-bikes which is also the Wisper company, worth contacting them to check if the same applies.

.

If you read a warranty and it says it is not transferable, end of story. However a supplier may make an exception as mentioned above. A bike originally purchased from the shop, taken in on an upgrade, may be covered buy a dealer warranty if so offered.
I've just bought a nearly new car, it still has the remaining warranty with it from the manufacturer. A lot more than two years too.

Are we really going to compare cars and car companies with ebikes again?

Shame, I would have been very interested in the seller. Do you have his details still?

Re the warranty, we would have been approachable.

All the best, David

Hi David

Hope you're enjoying your travels.

The details were in the email I sent you a few weeks ago.
