Want to change my three gear chain ring to single

Hi guys just after some help
Can you advise please I have a three gear front chain ring I never change the gears at all, it’s alway kept on the largest chain ring , can this be removed and replaced with a single chain ring ? It’s a sr suntour 175/44 32 22
please go easy as new to this I’d prefer a single red coloured gear ring what do I need to order as don’t really under stand what size I need and how many teeth . It’s a 4 bolt fixing if this helps it’s on the oxygen s cross mk11 mtb

It’s possible. I have done the same thing on my Specialized. You will need to work out your chainline for the single ring and then maybe adjust the size of your bottom bracket to accommodate this. If you want to keep your existing chainset you will need to remove the chainrings and replace with your new one. It might be necessary to place the single ring behind the crank spider and use some longer retaining bolts, to optimise chain line. You will need to know the bolt circle diameter (BCD) of the crankset, so you can purchase the correct spec chainring. You may need to buy a ‘narrow wide’ ring to assist in keeping the chain in place. The teeth on a narrow wide chainring are alternately narrow and wide, to better fit the chain and hold it in place.

Chainline is important because of the angle between the front ring and rear sprockets gets too extreme, you end up with significantly more wear on the drivetrain and run the risk of shipping the chain on a regular basis.

Regarding the number of teeth on the new ring, if you are happy pedalling the 44-tooth, you may be able to use the existing ring (pics of your existing set up would help). There is plenty of choice out there Regarding sizes, it all depends on how and where you ride.

You also have the option of removing the front derailleur, shifter and cabling, if you want (saving some weight).

Without having the bike in front of me i can’t measure the BCD (bolt circle diameter) Looking on oxygens website and then sun tours, I recon your BCD is 104mm. if it is you could fit one of these
this isn't gospel, only my best guess.

thanks I’ve ordered the above with matching crank I think it’s called that the peddles fixed too
