Viking bike bottle battery 24 volt

My other half purchased a viking ebike from the shopping channel about two years ago and I believe the battery is goosed

Its a 24 volt bottle battery and I cant find one anywhere for sale

Can anyone advise?

Have you considered having the battery "re-celled"? It is possible to do that with some battery cases..

I dont know if its the cells or the onboard electronics :-(

How are you with a multi-meter?

Test the voltage at the V+ and V- terminals and see what it gives you

I have found that there are a few scenario's

Voltage showing 0v is usually a dead BMS or Fuse blown
Voltage showing less that 17V will mean a cell bank is dead

Does it charge?

If so does it show full charge very quickly and then the voltage sag away?

I build batteries to replace dead ones in Scooters, Ebikes etc, so happy to advise and possibly rebuild the battery for you, replacing either the full pack with matched capacity cells, i dont advise to just replace the Dead cells unless they are all fully capacity tested and all the strings match.

I learnt this from my own mistakes on my ebike, if the BMS (battery management system) doesnt have a good balance charge circuit then it will just do one of 2 things

Cut off its charge when it gets to full charge IE: 6 x 4.2 = 25.2
The above can be disastrous to the pack because the charge doesnt care if a cell bank is 4.5 and one bank 3.2 as long as the voltage = 25.2

other cheap BMS will cut off charge as soon as 1 cell bank hits 4.2v meaning that the pack will never get to full charge.

When I first pluged it in this week after a break of 18 months the charger light was red and the battery warmed up a bit then the charger went green​

The battery displayLEDS indicate no charge​

Connecting to the bike doesnt do anything​

The voltage at the battery terminals is a negligible 0.1v.​

The charger output voltage is around 29v without a load​

​

I would appreciate it if you could do anything with it, let me know what to do next.​

Let's make it simple - one step at a time. Don't jump to any conclusions.

Step 1. Measure the voltage with a voltmeter between the two terminals at the bottom.

Beware of the websites offering a replacement they seem to be fraudulent. It can be re-celled but for silly money. I'm looking to find a suitable replacement which may involve adding a carrier to hold a different style of battery. Compared to 6 months ago there seems to be some possible contenders available now from £150 upwards. Some have fitting kits and include a charger unit. Hope you are able to sort yours.

The controller is in the base of the receiver. in theory, you can use any battery you want because it's a simple two wire connection, but you need to think about what you can do with the controller. If you don't mind the untidy look, you could keep the receiver and mount a different battery anywhere you want and join it to the receiver prongs with two large spade connectors. Whatever you do, it'll take some creative DIY to reach a solution.
