July 1, 201411 yr Hello, this is my first thread and I'm a newbie so grateful for any and all advice. I have been housebound for a number of years due to mental health problems and as such, have ballooned to 23.5 stone I attend a weekly therapy group and another lady there has recently purchased an electric bike (She's much slimmer than me, about 13st and bought a Batribike Diamond). It's inspired me to start getting fit and I was wondering if there is any brand of 'leccy bike that would cope with my size? The journey I need it for is around 2 miles there, 2 miles back. All uphill on the way there, some steep. Now, I'm not expecting any bike to zoom my fat bum all the way there but as the extent of my physical exercise for the past few years has been walking to the bathroom and back, I would obviously need some assistance, especially at first. Is there any bike that might be suitable or am I wishful thinking? Thanks in advance, Jackie.

After help from members on here I've got a Woosh Santana for my wife and a Woosh Big Bear is on the way for me. Either of these should be OK with the Big Bear possibly the better. Of course I've no idea how much you want to spend but if these bikes are in your region I live in Lostock in Bolton, which is very close to you, and you are more than welcome to call round and have a look and a ride on either or both of them. July 1, 201411 yr Author I like the look of the low step Big Bear. I see that there are hub motors or crank motors on these bikes, I'm really not mechanically minded so I don't understand the difference
July 1, 201411 yr The difference is not to important to you unless you are particularly fussy. Big bear is the standard advice for value and epicures. Get one and find your horizons open up( we hope) They do take the effort out of cycling. You should try as many bikes as possible. Then you can decide for yourself what works. You're welcome any time. There's a bus to Horwich and my wife will gladly pick you up and bring you the extra few miles. Don't worry, I'm very respectable and you can check me out. July 1, 201411 yr There's a saddle called the big bum comfort saddle. Type that into Ebay and see what comes up. I can't think of any bike that woulf suit you more than the Big Bear.

Big Bear it is then. I can't wait to get going on it really. Once I get used to it I'm going to go on rides down the canal

July 2, 201411 yr If you get the chance, try the bike with the sprung seatpost - It really does make a world of difference to comfort.
