I bought one of these about 3 months ago from a guy called protrade 101 (an EBAY power seller) i had not used it much so i charged it and set off for work friday morning......all the way to work it felt like the rear tyre was soft.......so i blew it up ( put 40 psi in it) just before i set off for home. About 2 miles from home it seemed to delelop a bad sway......then as i was crossing the main road it seemed to lock up and i was throw off. i dragged the bike onto the grass verge to see what had happened, 7 spokes were mangled and tangled in the chain and the rest of the spokes in the rear wheel were loose......some were missing. So i contacted the seller who said.....Tightening the spokes is a maintenance job which should be done every 2 weeks and he is not responcable......contacted EBAY and PAYPAL who both said they could do nothing and i would be better off sorting it out with the seller!
SO........has anyone else had problems with a V TREK bike? and is tightening the spokes a maintenance job i should have done. ( the bike came with no instructions)
thanks guys

Well...i think it is wise to check spokes often. Probably more often on an electric bike. They must have been very loose to cause such a failure like that or maybe too tight, one snapped causing others to loosen and fail.

As long as the rim isn't twisted badly a good bike shop should be able to repair the wheel.

Welcome to the forum btw.

If he supplied an instruction book, and it was written in the maintenance schedule, then the seller has a point. Many bikes have loose spokes when supplied due to poor quality controls. It takes a lot longer to properly tension and true a wheel, so it's an easy shortcut for guys on piecework. I'd try the supplier again. Politely tell him that he's responsible and he needs to sort it. There's several strategies you can use after that, but I would say the law's on your side. In the meantime, get his details from ebay. He'll get a message from them about it, so he'll know you mean business. Also, print off his listings as proof that he's a trader because you have more rights when buying from a trader, which might be useful later.

And by the way, the photo he provided was the same as used by the seller on e-bay.
