Upgrading a Sakura Mustang

I've just impulsively bought a Sakura Mustang electric chopper bike, for my daily commuter.

However, I now realise that this cool looking beast with its clunky lead acid batteries might not be the most electrically economical...

Does anyone own one and know where to get a replacement lithium battery?

Are there any other mods that you'd recommend for better mileage?

Would it be better to get a full conversion kit and get the hub built onto the existing rim?

I had considered that, it's quite a heavy bike though, so I'm not sure if a normal 'push bike' conversion kit would be suitable?
