Unemployed in the 1960's question

Does anyone know if an unemployed teenager in the mid 1960's was paid National Assistance (dole money)?
If they did get paid, approx how much was it per week/month and how was it paid to them ? e.g. By Postal Order or straight into a bank or Post Office account.

Didn't they get "giro" cheque those days..?? I, ll ask wife later. She worked at dole office 30 plus years..??

I think Giro's were first used in the early seventies.

Giro didn't get physically built until 1968.

Wife started 1970...at time they only dealt with over 18s... Under 18s (over 16) were dealt with by careers Office??
She thinks there was help available but hard to get.. Dole office paid cash prior to giro etc
Minimum she remembers "doling out" was £3 for single bloke.???!!!
