I'm a complete newbie to e-bikes, but a very experienced pedal bike mechanic, and I have a road bike I'd like to convert to an e-bike. I'm trying to do it with the parts I already have, and am running into some compatibility issues. I've been looking around at various suppliers and I don't seem to be able to find a kit with everything as I need it, so looking for advice on whether such a kit exists. The XF08C and 85SX kits from Woosh get close, but have a few outstanding questions (I've emailed Woosh with some of these as well).
1. I have drop bars on the bike with a 31.8mm flat section in the middle where I would need to mount the display, however most displays seem to come with a 22.2mm clamp designed for flat bars. Are there any displays available which would fit, and are these plug and play with kits such as those supplied by Woosh?
2. I'm looking for a rear hub motor due to having a carbon fork which rules out a front hub for me, and I don't want to replace the cranks with a mid drive conversion. This needs to be disc compatible with enough clearance to allow running a 160mm rotor (I've seen some which require a 180mm rotor, which is too big for the frame) and have a cassette fitting rather than a freewheel. The Woosh motors match this, but are there others to consider?
3. I wouldn't want to run the throttle, and likely wouldn't be able to fit the brake sensors which come with the kits. Are either of these likely to cause problems, either with needing to modify wiring/plug up connector ports or with the motor not cutting out correctly when I stop pedalling?
Thanks!
