I've now done 500 miles on my 29er hardtail with BBS02 36v 500w. It's fitted with a pair of Richey Excavader 35c folding tyres on the basis that I ride a mix of road, tow-paths, bridleways and easy trails. I'm not into mud-plugging, hence the narrower section. They're probably more of a Cyclocross tyre and I didnt have the BBS02 when I first fitted them. I run 60psi on road and 40 psi off road. I mainly chose these based on their light weight and they were dirt cheap on ebay at £20 a pair. Grip is pretty good on dry dusty trails and dry/wet tarmac. They're not much good in mud or long grass, but then I dont do much of that, being a roadie at heart.
The rear tyre has worn through the knobbly tread in the middle after just 500 miles and its beginning to shed bits of tread! It wont be long before its through to the casing. The front is still like new. I'm thinking I might buy a tyre just for the rear, probably a little wider, maybe a 38c or 42c. Any recommendations bearing in mind I do 75% on road in both wet and dry conditions, with the rest being off-road dirt/gravel.
