Tyre sizes

My bike is fitted with off road 26x1.95 tyres which are noisy.
I would like to replace them. Must I stay at 1.95, just for road use or can I go narrower?

You can go narrower, there will be a limit your rim can take but it's likely to be a lot narrower than you're looking for.
The noise is probably just the treads, you could always get a slick the same size.

I changed 26 x 2.25 MTB tyres to Schwalbe City Jet 26 x 1.95 they are much easier to ride with and very quiet. Best of all they were only just over £11 each including being puncture resistant.
