Ironic indeed. We don't know the circumstances of course, but I've gone on record as saying the Segway is a fundamentally unsafe vehicle* so an accident of this sort doesn't surprise me.

*Due to the degree of emergency braking depending too much on rider skill and in any case, seriously limited in comparison to a fore and aft wheeled vehicle.
