Two youtube videos for interest

Found these conversion builds and found them very interesting. Thought I'd share for interest.

After watching the first video, I've made a mental note to never convert a bike with a press fit BB using a BBSXXX. Freaking nightmare... But if I do, make sure I move close to the same sort of well stocked hardware store that dude lives near.

The only trouble I had when fitting the BBS01B to mine, was removing the BB, which had stuck tight and required rather a lot of careful hammering while held over a metal spike. If the BB had easily been removed, the rest would only have taken an hour, maybe two at most.

I'd used this video as a guide, which makes removal of the BB look easy. It wasn't. At all. Your BB may vary.

Hre used the wrong sized torque arm on that front motor. It won't stop a 500w Bafang BPM from twisting out of the drop-outs. I had one twist in a one of those that was made of proper hardened steel, not the cheap one he used.

My eyes usually glaze over as I fall asleep watching anything to do with hub motor kits (no offence meant, hub motor dudes), but I like that dude's bodge for reducing the bend in spokes using his home made conical spoke washers, haven't seen that before... probably because I'd fallen asleep.

Other than standard bikes, hub motors can be put to other uses, so it promotes creativity.
Engineer I worked with in a bike charity used to create the weird and the wonderful. Cut/chop and weld up, his 'creations' were quite the wonder. I reckon many of them would have benefited from having a motor fitted

Talking heads is what people fall asleep with. That's just a persons head talking to camera. I think that's why RJ the bike guy did so well on YouTube, as you never seen his face. Just got on with it showing what he was doing with good camera work. Has a good voice as well. I found that centre drive video posted at the top fascinating. I've watched loads but nothing that informative.

I love RJ The Bike Guy, he's my go to guy for bike maintenance.

I found those videos you posted interesting, the guy came across a bit weird at first but he grew on me.

Interesting bit in the comments on the chrome bike:

"As an ASE certified advanced level specialist, we are trained to never solder wires together. It creates resistance in connections, and can cause failures from heat. If you notice on all wired connections in vehicles today, they are all crimped connections with no solder. Some connections are spot welded copper to copper with no solder. The only solder used is making connections to circuit boards. I have repaired many wiring issues due to soldered connections. Most of which being on Harley Davidsons "customs". Some people never learn."

The way mountain bikes are going with their tiny chainwheels (and no room to fit a bigger one) does not bode well for hub drive conversions in the future. We will all be stuck with 10-15 year old mountain bikes if we want disc brakes and a 42/44 chainwheel. And I have absolutely no need for a 12 speed cassettes the size of Alan Partridge's dinner plate.

No wonder most people find it easier to just buy a ready made e-bike.

I soldered my battery to my controller, because the supplied crimped bullet connectors obviously got hot. No problems 2 years and about 4 months on, the soldered connections don't get hot.






Hadn't seen waterproof Delphi connectors before (first video). This one rated 46A looks interesting, but I wouldn't trust any crimp I'd crimped.
