The 52t front chain ring trial proved to be a compromise to far , had to give up with the 7 speed set up after a 28-13 and a 28-11 as the hill climbing ability suffered but great on the flat
Plan b replace with a 10 speed gear set but rear wheel is a screw on freewheel and just hard to find or a rip off ebike special at £70.00 [just for the freewheel ]
Managed to locate in china just had to wait for the slow boat , but arrived today and all fitted ok only required the simple fix of 2 spacer washers so the freewheel cleared the frame
With the standard front chainwheel back on and the rear 36-11 the fun factor is back
PARTS USED
Screw on freewheel 36-11 - 10 speed derailleur - 10 speed thumbshifter -10 speed chain and 2 washers

The quality of the freewheel [screw on] is better than the 7 speed it replaced, the gear indexed ok but as every part swapped is new some tinkering is required but once set up all good
Now the acceleration has returned but now still has a good top speed the total wheel dia is almost 30 inches:eek: but not as fast as the bbshd in the fatboy  .
Just converted another back wheel from 7 to 10 speed but had to re-dish [adjusted] the spokes to centre the wheel rim in the frame

Nice work. Did you find necessary to place a 'roller bearing' at the end of the freewheel, to prevent (or help to prevent) the 'axis' from flexing?

No when the old freewheel unscrewed it turned out that the new 10 speed is 2mm wider ,so required two 1mm thick washers on the axle which fitted behind the lock nut and existing spacer then the new freewheel just screwed on and as in pic 2, this allowed the chain to clear the frame whole lot cost £82.00 for the bits and fitted in a couple of hours
The resulting spread of the new ratios the 36t allows for off road climbing without the tsdz2 bogging down under load, but still able to spin up in the 11t top gear this also feels like a more natural ride
With out the brutal power of the bbshd this bike is more fun and a work out to ride
