Buttock cheek faced, "Call me Dave" and "Catarrh Hero" Ed could do worse than learn a lesson in truth telling from this guy. I don't know about anyone else, but I am becoming increasingly frustrated by these two continuously telling whatever lies they deem it necessary to tell, in order to stay in office. They both pedal the same ****, but in different coloured buckets.

It's only going to get worse. On the news today were the results from the "happiness" index that Dave established, apparently we are at 7.4 overall, but the unemployed are at around 6.4.

This at present purports to be from feedback from interviews, but I can see the way it's going. Its just one short step from them telling us how happy we are as just another way of population control. "If Dave tells me that I'm happier than last year, then I must be".

Not so much "One Man and His Dog", it's more like "One Man and His Many Sheep", judging from the way most let them get away with things.

Why are we still amazed and dismayed by our leaders? I remember when I was doing a little research into 17th century governments I came a across a couplet which is still valid today (apologies, it's not P.C.)

'A politician is an *rs* upon
Which everything has sat, except a man.'

Dismayed yes, but I'm never amazed. I've been tracking their lies and the proofs of those lies since the early 1960s on a number of subjects, so nothing they do surprises me in the slightest.

I don't know how we could have one when there isn't one target at the top. We don't have a Ceauşescu, Mubarak or Gaddafi.

Our lot are so incompetent, there isn't one who can even achieve being worse than the rest. Guy Fawkes had the right idea it seems, blow them all up.

What we need is a Nigel Farage type character, someone that could stand amongst all the political leaders and assassinate them verbally, remove the political bullshit that normally happens at question time and allow someone to just rant at them without interruption. At least in the EU parliament, Farage is allowed uninterrupted floor space to say his piece, in the house of commons, it's like bite sized chunks of stand-up/sit-down crap, that no-one beleives anyway, at least Farage makes it believable with his delivery (or is that me just wanting to believe it!).

Even if it achieved nothing it would make great viewing when compared to leaders exchanging bullshit which doesn't even raise a laugh in my household.

Failing that - bring back Guy Fawkes.

To some degree we had someone like that in economic matters in the Commons, Vince Cable. Time after time he would spell out the common-sense position on economic matters which attracted him a large national following.

Unfortunately, now he's in the coalition, his behaviour seems to have changed, at times being even somewhat eccentric. Clearly he is not at ease with this new situation.

The trouble is the party system.
Every politician has a policy in his back pocket and has to seek support for it.
Consequently, he will vote for your policy if you vote for his at party conference time. This then becomes party policy and every MP has to support it.
This means that out spoken opposition politicians are rapidly silenced if they win the election.
The good thing about the old House of Lords was that they did not owe allegience to anything or person.
As soon as they started letting ex MPs in, it was ruined.

I once thought that the unelected House of Lords was some small defence against the pseudo democratic system we practise. Maybe election by lottery is the way forward? Perhaps any constituency where fewer than half the voters don't turn out isn't allowed an M.P.? Perhaps there should be a DNA check to eliminate any candidate who has an ancestor who was once an politician? Perhaps a requirment might be to manage to live on the minimum wage for a year?
Please, lord, let there be a way!

No we bloody don't!
In a nutshell why nobody truly sane and intelligent goes into politics.

It's always guaranteed to upset many.

Those in the population who are satisfied stay silent, those upset make lots of noise, so the impression is of permanent failure.

Being a politician is hard work. Constantly at the beck and call of disgruntled constituents, many of whom are idiots. Going to meetings in all sorts of weather, taking unpopular decisions.
Only persons with a well developed sense of their own self importance should try it.
