Does anyone have any insight into Trek's plans for Ebikes in 2009?

The only references I can see to the Trek T500 E Bionx models are from Dutch sites, with no results on the American or UK Trek sites.

Would be nice to see them roll out the models in other countries, as they look pretty solid.

In Switzerland they are sold as Villager (owned by Trek)

Hi
Useful information. Thank you. The Trek T500+ appears to be the same model as the Villiger Bedretto+. Interesting that the site gives the weight as: 22.6kg. Now, and I'm probably about to start some controversy here, I'm being frustrated particularly by high end suppliers/manufacturers who appear to believe that I'm not really concerned about weight. They therefore make statements such as "we prefer not to state weights as they can vary spec by spec".

Now, I'm a grown up and if you explain a weight to me I'll probably understand. I accept that weights will vary spec by spec however a 45cm stepthrough sold as a particular model with say a 6.4Ah battery MUST weigh at X kg plus or minus, say 2-3% of X kg. My brain can accept this and even more I can then relate this when doing comparisons. PLEASE cease this dismissive marketing. I will not consider bikes and kits where the weights are kept from me; the guy who is spending the money.

Oh, the weight is 22.6kg. Now if the Swiss can understand that then so can I.

Regards

Most normal bikes are available in four or five frame sizes, so the weight varies a lot, thats one reason they tend not to publish the weight. Kona used to publish the weight of every bike they made, but they stopped. Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative always put the weight of their bikes in their catalogue, based on a medium frame size, but they still miss some, because they have to publish that catalogue before they receive the new models of bikes. Every good LBS will weight a bike in front of you, but if you're buying mail order, it can be an issue.

This generally seems less of an issue with eBikes anyway, because they often only offer a single frame size they publish the weight. For example my Aurora is advertised as 26.5kg on Alien's website.

I do wonder if its really much of an issue anyway with eBikes, ok, they're heavy to lift, but the weight seems largely irrelevent when riding. I 've carried loads of about 20kgs on the Cyclamatic and not noticed a performance difference.
