transporting ebike by car?

Hi:
I've tried a FAQ search but it didn't turn up the thread I wanted - ebikes are longer and probably heavier than pure pedal pushers. What's the safe/simple/reliable way of transporting them by car to far away places?
Given the amount of camping gear we carry there won't be room inside for it/them.
Guidance, please!

We use a Thule carrier for our two Synergy bikes. It is really strong and carries them no problem. You need a towbar ball to attach it to. A bit pricey but it certainly does what it says on the tin.
