Hi everybody,

Great to finally contribute - I have lurked for some time and seen some truly beaut' bikes on here. Regrettably, I'm a pauper and can only beg, borrow and manufacture my own things. I've managed to cobble some things together but have many questions (we'll get to those later).

For now, here's my most recent abomination. I look forward to being a valued member, lol.34105

Welcome!

Paupers drive innovation through necessity :)!

Neat job on a budget and you got discs which is a safety must imho. Plus tidy home battery install. Slight shame controller wouldn't fit in same bag but that's a pretty small triangle you had to work with by the look of it

Change that rear mud thing for a mudhugger. Will look miles better and do a better job. EBay is yer friend!

Thanks for the response,

That bag on top is actually a second battery  I have a long commute so needed it. A lot has changed since that photo - the mudhugger is already on and is indeed a great improvement.

The frame is indeed tiny - but it has huge horizontal dropouts which means no torque arms to mess everything up.

I'm looking at bigger rotors next, building a nice box to store batteries and controller out of the way and considering a mudhugger up front too - the "race" version (let me know if they're any good).

Forgive the filth, I'm due a spring overhaul (and clean) Look at the size of those dropouts!34113

Do you not use oil, that chain and sprocket is dry.

I can confirm that I have used zero oil since it started getting wet before Christmas! That's a cheap chinesium freewheel and I have no intention of using it beyond my planned spring renovation.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows anything about making a fibreglass battery case, advice would be great!

Fibreglass is quite easy to use but very smelly whether Epoxy or Polyester is used, it stinks until it has cured.
For a battery case you need to make a mould /former up so you can lay up the matting on to it, ideally you need to make two halves then incorporate a method to join them in the construction.
