Thanks to fleccs torq pages i have now derestricted my torq 2 (at one time it was stated that this model could not be derestricted),but on mine it was the same as the older torq derestriction instructions.remove the battery and turn the bike upside down, below the crank there are a couple of wires and connectors, on mine there were two blue wires that end together, these were covered by red insulation, carefully cut off the furthest cable tie from the two wires and strip off the red tape untill the plastic connector can be seen, undo the connector and reseal it with the wires disconnected to prevent moisture getting in,with the wheel held off the ground and the throttle fully open it will now do 24.4mph previously it was 17.5mph,the motor sounds more powerfull now and climbs hills much faster than before.

Thanks for the information Paul. I believe there was a change of heart on this, at one time derestriction disappearing from the Torq and F series, but since gradually returning.

Of course with that extremely powerful Torq 2 motor (more than the Torq 1), the consumption will probably be quite high, and it will be interesting to learn how it turns out.

i guess it will not help with battery life, and the range will be affected but it is so much fun,i am trying to avoid using full throttle but cannot resist the odd quick blast,i am thinking of using the light switch as an offroad switch as the lights dont work anyway,i presume if i run the two blue wires up to the switch,it will work as a simple on off derestrict switch.

is that 24mph actual running speed as opposed to lifting wheel of ground and turning throttle ?... how fast can you comfortably pedal and assist with throttle ?,is the concern over battery life or distance each charge ?...if distance each charge you can do 1 of two things 1) live closer to where you are going 2) carry a second battery with you..

24mph is with the wheel lifted off the ground, with me on it will easily do 19- 20mph on the flat with a little assistance,it would assist to 24.4mph if i pedalled harder though, i am not worried about distance only shortening the battery life.

Tried to de-restrict my Torq 2 but have the later wiring where the two leads are already disconnected.

Have to pedal faster , then!:D

I thought it was the earlier bikes that were not de restrictable, mine was first purchased in november 2007.

Hi

Seems pointless to take limiter off, if it damages the battery.

Does the Torq 1 de restrict or the Torq 2 , seems confusig and not too ezee.

thx

Bob

I think there was period when Ezee changed the spec , as I purchased my Torq beginning of Jan this year .
I noticed at the end of 2007 they advertised it as the Torq Trekking , AKA Torq 2.
So Torq 1 can be de-restricted , Torq 2 can't.( that I am aware of)

It may also be due to Ezee wishing to comply with the legal compliance of e-bikes in terms of max speed , and ensuring that users cannot break this compliance.

I am not sure how you can tell the difference between the two versions by visual means.

Wai Won Ching did announce late last year that his bikes would comply with the legal speed limit in future, but there seems to have been a change of heart since, with derestriction returning on some models.

The term Torq 2 is one we use in here to distinguish the difference, but I don't think that has ever been an official name. 50cycles called the second one Torq Trekking, but Cyclepoint now just call it the Torq.

My torq 2 has been de restricted but i believe that some cannot be,the main visual differences between torq 1 and two are,the torq 2 has a disk brake and the motor is a lot bigger(about the size of the disk, also the torq 2 has front suspension the torq 1 does not.
