Hi Guys,

A friend has asked me to post this since he tried my Pro-Connect. He is experiencing very little in the way of pedelec mode from his derestriced Torq 1, throttle is fine, so much so that he is not sure if its even there at all.

How does pedelec mode work on the Torq 1, is there a specific switch or way of switching it on?

Could his de-restricting of the Torq cause the pedelec mode to be removed?

Thanks for any answers guys :)

As far as I know, the Torq 1 pedelec mode acts only as a safety system, and is not intelligent regarding the power usage.

The switch is on the side of the unit on the handlebars containing the battery indicator lights.

In Ebike Mode, the motor will turn whenever the throttle is applied.

In Pedelec Mode, you still need to turn the throttle to get the motor to turn BUT there is the additional safety that you have to be turning the pedals.

To detect the pedals turning, there is a sensor looking at magnets on a round disc which is fitted to the bottom bracket.

There is a saving in battery usage by using Pedelec mode, in that the rider must start the bike moving before the motor kicks in. The Torq being fitted with high gearing in the motor takes quite a drain on power when using the motor to pull away from a standstill.

So, as far as I am aware, when the rider is turning the pedals there is no difference between Ebike mode and the Torq 1 Pedelec mode.

Perhaps Flecc would confirm this

Yes, the modes are identical on the Torq 1.

Press the bottom part (nearer the saddle) of the rocker switch on the meter to select pedelec mode.

Derestriction doesn't influence this at all.

Thanks very much for the info guys, I guess that explains why he thought the 'pedelec' mode quite poor over the past 6 months, he didnt twist the throttle so he didnt have any !! :D :D
