My son in law's bike has lost power. He rides it all the time in top gear turbo (in spite of lots of warnings not to!)
The pedals are hard to turn even with the chain removed. Has anybody had this problem? The main Sprag clutch is good.
Does the blue gear have a clutch as well? I'm reluctant to freeze in the garage pulling it apart without any info on this !
If it is the blue gear, is it best being replaced with a plastic or brass one? Son in law is very educated but has zero mechanical sympathy, so any change in noise wouldn't be noticed !!!
Thanks in advance.

Tbh if it is the drive that is the issue, one won't know until it is opened.
If it is the Blue gear then replacing with the same Blue gear is beneficial as it acts as a fail safe early on the mechanical side , one can use the brass gear but then loses that early fail safe. With the brass gear any failure from rider abuse will likely occur elsewhere and be more troublesome to repair.
It isn't a motor to be abused as can be seen form the huges issues on ES.

Thanks Nealh, I'll go and get a bit chilly then !! Still trying to find out if the blue gear is clutched or not.

I believe it has a roller clutch type bearing, but tbh have never delved to far in to the repair side yet. I'm a bit old school of if it's not broken then it needs no fixing , that said prior to install I did add some cooling mods and OSF to try and make it ore bullet proof.
I did bung in extra grease when I did the mods and thus far the Blue gear has been no issue, but then again I don't hoon around or use high power but it can still top a good 20mph.

My tsdz2 has never seen turbo mode and tbh I haven't yet used it out of the eco mode even with towing a 90/100kg loaded trailer. For power I have eked the eco settings 10/15 % higher so I have no need to use the other modes, releasing street mode also gives a little oomph.

Stripped the motor down yesterday, simple half hour job, though care has to be taken with the 4 countersunk motor screws as they seem to be JIS and very soft.
The blue gear has a clutch and seems to be perfect. Now it's back together the pedals turn easier and there's less vibration, as before you could feel it through the frame. Before this problem arose the performance was the same as your bike around 20mph but when I tested it I had trouble getting it to 15mph. I intend to take it out on the road today to see if it's improved !
