Reading of the problems other makes seem to have, I must say that in the 2,000 miles I have now done on my Enduro, the only things to go wrong were my fault.
1 The plastic chain guard snapped when I tried changing from second to fifth in one go and the chain came off. Phil sent a much better replacement.
2 The chain began jumping off the rear top gear cog. This is very small with only 11 teeth. Unfortunately, riding along a path, the autumn leaves had fallen and some got caught up in the cogs in such a manner that the chain could not bed completely down into the top gear and so damaged the teeth. A replacement SRAM 11/32 set cost £20 and soon fixed that.
What I like about Tonaro is that they are built substantially, they are simple, the pedelec is just a ring of magnets and a sensor, no complicated, expensive strain sensors.
The speed limiter is simple and can be removed.
Full power is always available via the throttle, no need to match power output with pedalling effort. The pedelec for those like me who do not like them is easily disabled by moving the sensor.
And they are comparatively cheap!
The KISS principle at its best!

Clearly there is a big conspiracy going on. Surely everyone will have voted for either the Eagle or the Tonaro, but some sort of virus is changing the votes to these 'other makes'!!

I mean, who can you get in touch with fer crissakes?

These are two completely different things, but often confused as here. The ring of magnets and sensor are what tells the controller the pedals are in use, i.e. pedelec. A strain gauge/torque sensor is an alternative to a throttle, varying the motor power according to the pedal pressure, in other words a foot throttle.

What's it worth Lynda?

Incidentally, did I mention that Tonaro demonstration bikes are available for viewing and test rides in sunny Milton Keynes as well as Malaga!

Agreed, but my point is that a stain/torque guage is not needed and an unnecessary expense. Further, it is not quite a foot throttle as you have to push harder to obtain more assistance. Arguably, the amount of extra push could be set quite small, but in practice it is set quite high.
Now in use, the amount of pedalling to go up a given hill may be no more than that required by a Tonaro using a hand throttle, but why go such complication? Also, if you get fatigued, or as one poster reported, his pedal broke, A Tonaro will still get you home.

Still a throttle though Mike, the action whether more push or more twist is immaterial, there's an increase controlled by the rider.

The Tonaro isn't less complicated, it's arguably more. It has a twistgrip throttle with wiring, plus a pedelec magnet disc and its sensor and wiring. A strain gauge/torque sensor bike often just has that, since that indicates the pedals are in use as well as providing the throttle function.

Flecc,
We must agree to differ on this one.
As I have said before, there are different types of e-bike riders and what really suits one does not suit another. It is good that the present market caters for these differences, and I suppose that this is what this poll is all about.
Me? Tonaro!

It really comes down to what suits each individual Mike. Personally I like both types of e-bike for their individual advantages, in each case putting up with the disadvantages. Potentially the system eZee used at one time of a switch alowing either pedelec or throttle control would be ideal, but no-one has refined that enough to make both modes good enough yet.

As i can't vote for my trusty Wisper 705 ( I will not insult it by putting it in "other", it deserves its own category!) I've voted for the Esprit on basis of its unique combination of pedelec and throttle:D

Hi Lynda,

As a trade member, I think it would be unethical of me to vote.

No conversions were nominated, not even my eZee BMC which is rather disappointing, so I will just sit in a corner quietly and sulk, anyway, abstinence is good for you.

Sorry Tillson, I think that Aldby guy or what ever his name was did a better job last year. Whatever happened to him, does anyone know?
