Has anyone else on the forum purchased a throttle control for Kalkoff bikes to allow assistance whilst pushing (up particularly STEEP hills etc). I've bought and fitted two, one to my Pro Connect and one to my wife's step thru' Po Connect. Assistance seems to be more like 2.5 to 3 mph (in top gear) . at the most and not the advertised 4mph. Whilst this is OK, a shade more 'grunt' when climbing some particularly steep hills around Dorset wouldn't go amiss. Does anyone else have similar experience.

Regards.

You may find it's almost 4 mph on the flat Mike.

In fact BikeTech first created this mod on their Flyer bikes using the Panasonic system, the mod later adopted by Panasonic, and it's within the EU pedestrian controlled vehicle maximum speed of 6 kph, and that's actually 3.7 mph. Our equivalent UK limit is 4 mph.

The low power in this throttle mode is fundamental to the system since with no pressure being applied on the pedalshaft torque sensor the motor is operating at a minimum power setting. On the steepest hills it can be more in the nature of assistance than providing the the whole of the climb power.

Using the throttle on my Pro Connect S, whilst riding, it will hit 9.5 mph in top gear, way too fast for me to keep up with whilst walking alongside. I'm guessing it would be faster if it wasn't carrying me.

Not being funny Mike, but are you sure the bike is in top gear?

I tried the throttle on the ProConnect S while walking with the bike up a 1:3 grass slope, the bike pulls you up.

Only the S model does these speeds John, an accidental by product of the upgearing and more powerful setup. The throttle kit on the other models complies with the pedestrian controlled vehicle law exactly as I've described above, limited to 6 kph/4 mph maximum.
