What can one expect when Toyota-Lexus advertise their non-plug ins as Self Charging Hybrids.

They aren't even hybrids since they only use one fuel, petrol. Their electricity is only recovered from kinetic energy put in by petrol, so all the drive is by petrol.

I suppose you could argue that it does if it has regen-braking...
Not at all. What sent it up to speed that it braked from? Pedal drive on bikes, petrol drive in so-called hybrid cars.

The same goes for downhill regen, what got them up the hill in the first place?

Ultimately in non-plug ins, the electricity only comes from the main energy input, be it pedal or petrol, single source.

I was being facetious. But what I was referring to was peddling with the e-brake on. Though it would be difficult! It would still charge the battery and be fine in hilly areas if you didn't use (much) assistance up hills.
