Not many people know, but there are 73 different error code 500’s. What you can’t see on your handlebar display is the last three digits e.g. 500 111. Not that this would help as Bosch don’t tell you what these mean anyway.

500 – Internal drive unit fault. Restart the system. If the problem persists, contact your Bosch eBike dealer.

The Ebike Motor Centre has teamed up with a local high-tech electronics company who had a team of engineers working with over 200 printed circuit boards, supplied by us, for over 3 weeks solid! Solving these software and hardware issues.

We can currently boast a 90% success rate of repairing all code 500 errors. This means it is no longer necessary to buy a new motor when it can be repaired. For the 10% that sadly can’t be repaired, we can usually offer a service exchange motor to keep you going.

if they cant fix the controller as say a cpu chip has shorted out and cant get those chips from bosch let alone the software to re programme it they can take you motor and exchange it for a working one with discount.

it is better than nothing or a new motor from bosch if they even make the gen 2 motors anymore for £1000.

The error code 500 may be a fault or corrosion on the circuit board but can be for other reasons - for example my own bike raised the code, and the motor stopped assisting, as the small steel cogwheel (idler gear) and small bearing around the cog developed a crack allowing the cog to slip. This resulted in the nearby sensor 'recognising' a fault and the error code. By changing the gear (available from ebikemotorcentre) and the worn bearings (I actually changed ALL the bearings), the motor is now working. With the exception of one bearing (61904 LU 21.5x37x9RS) I managed to buy ALL the other bearings (mostly as well regarded named brands) from general bearing suppliers at a huge saving over Bosch prices. Admittedly, there are a few tools needed - including a decent bearing press, but the task is relatively simple - just make sure the clutch bearings go in the same way they came out.

Tar,

Do you have a list of the bearings for the gen 2 motor that you could share?

The user 'Tar' only posted once over 18 months ago, so unlikely he is still around.

Performance Line Bearings will do the servicing, and replacement of all bearings for you. TBH they'd probably be the best people to do the work, and they'll properly seal it afterwards to prevent water ingress
