Just seen this amazing cyclocross bike virtually as new go for £2k on e-bay (would have cost £6k from a shop) :

A load of used road bikes, however, of not nearly that kind of spec or in as good condition, go for that kind of sum on a regular basis. I honestly think people have gone a bit mad after the Olympics and there will be an almighty crash of prices in about a year's time when most people who bought one realize their backs are killing them, it's always raining and they actually never get round to riding them at all.
Thing is that road bike owners seem to think they are entitled to 80% plus of what they paid for their bikes after using them for a year. Someone really needs to put the word out that carbon frames of uncertain history which have been built up and ridden are a depreciating asset and not an investment All I can say is that if I had a road bike to shift I'd be selling it now and laughing all the way to the bank.
