Lbs is offering test rides on new ebikes. . Told me they have a new way of doing this. .
You pay £50 and if you buy it they give the £50 back, if you don't they keep it! Apparently they don't get many takers.

I don't really understand how such schemes could work for the retailer, as a bike value would depreciate a lot more than £50 is then sold used.

They will have to sell it as "demonstration model" with a discount. How much does a bike devalue after it leaves the door for a test ride?

What's happening to the bikes that are not purchased by people testing them?

Are they tested by other people (in which case your statement about testing "new" bikes is not correct)?

I certainly wouldn't pay £50 for a test ride.

Stores I've visited generally offer the facility to cycle around a parking area or up/down a road with a credit card held as a deposit. Even Halfords allow potential purchasers to cycle around the store which seems to be a popular Saturday afternoon activity with the young teenage boys!

As for my own bike, this was sold as 'new' despite being the display model which may well have been tested by potential (or curious) customers.

Perhaps you might be classed as a time waster then?[emoji12] [emoji12] I, like you, handed in my credit card as surety and was allowed to ride up the nearest hill...
