Synergie electric bike problem.

Hi folks

I am a newbie to the forum, been browsing for a while before I purchased an electric bike.

I recently purchased a 2nd user Synergie electric bike on eBay, practically identical to the Kudos Sport. When I received it from the courier everything seemed to be packaged well, I initially charged up the frog battery currently a 36v 9ah, before I decided to take the bike out for a test run I connected up the battery, turned the controller on, lifted up the front of the bike since the hub is in the front wheel and gently twisted the throttle, the wheel started to spin with no problems for a long time. However, when I twist the throttle very quickly the wheel starts for a second or two then stops, maybe this is a safety feature but not really sure.

I decided to take the bike out on to the streets, started to peddle initially in the hope the hub would kick in after I twisted the throttle, it does for literally one second then cuts out, I know the bike has three modes of assistance, I have tried all three but still no luck with getting the bike to work.

Can anyone give me some assistance on maybe what is wrong with the bike...any input appreciated...thanks.

HI and welcome to the forum, how long have you charged the battery for.I would leave it on for six hours and try that, it does sound like a battery or charger problem.

Hi Zebb, thanks for the welcome. I have charged the lipo battery overnight, still cuts out. I am hesitant on buying a new battery or controller, if this is the problem then may have to buy a new battery.

Hi MM
Does the charger get warm (almost hot) when you charge and how long does it take to charge?

With these sort of problems, you always have to stat at the battery. Unclip the battery and measur rhe voltage on the slots in the front with a multimeter set to 200v DC. It's the outer two slots on the battery. You should have 42v if the battery's charged. If you have at least 41v, then proceed with the checks below.

Next thing to check is the actual battery connections. Look at the copper contacts in the battery. Sometimes they get pushed apart so that they don't grip the pins on the bike. The gap should be about a milimeter. If it's too wide, the easiest way to reform them is to open the battery, take them out and bend them, although I've done it from the outside with a thin stiff implement.

You should also check the motor connectors. Usually, there's a connector close to the front wheel. Check that it's fully in and that the contacts aren't dirty. Then you have to take off one side of the bottom part of the battery support to get at the controller and check the thick blue, green and yellow wire connections. Pull them apart, squeeze down the barrels and re-connect them. Test whether there's any improvement before putting the cover back on.

If it still has the problem, disconnect the PAS sensor and brakes from the controller and try again.

Thanks to all for the replies, I do appreciate it.

Hi Juicybike..thanks

The charger I would say only gives off a very tepid heat, usually charging the battery takes about 6 hours maximum.

Hi shemozzle999

I ain't sure about the model, all I know it's exactly the same as the Kudos Sport but in blue made by Synergie.

Hi d8veh

Many thanks for your advice, I will have a look at what you have explained above and get back to you as soon as possible..thanks for taking the time to type the above..appreciated.

HI bigroy

When I purchased the bike from the seller on Ebay I was assured by him it was 36V 9ah despite the specs were not stated in the original buy it now listing. Thanks for the offer of assistance, I will google your website to get your contact details so as i can call you..thank you.

Update on my problems with my ebike.

After going through some of the pointers mentioned by d8veh above I was still having problems not getting the ebike to work. One thing I did pickup on was the frog battery indicator whilst being fully charged (as far as I was aware) was only showing 2 charging lights as opposed to three. Decided to open up the frog battery casing to check there wasn't any lose wiring. On inspection I noticed one of the battery cells has bulky swelling on the side, with that said I decided not to progress any further with trying to sort out the battery problems..looked on it as a risk I took when buying the bike on eBay.

I decided to have a look for a 24V 10Ah battery online, whilst most of the search results came up with Chinese manufacturers I done a search on eBay, on searching I came across the Tesco Hopper ebike by chance, the seller was based in Fife which ain't far from me, at the time I was unsure if the Hopper battery would have suited my Synergie Avanti, decided to put in a bid for the bike knowing I was after the battery more than anything. To my surprise I won the bid just over £215 which I was pleased about. The bike is only three months old in great condition and was like a kid with a new toy after trying the bike out since this was my first time on a working ebike..so a good result if anything.

I was wondering will I be able to hook the battery up to my Synergie Avanti? I know it has a 24V 10Ah battery, my Hopper is 24V 9Ah as far as I am aware, will have to find my keys for my Synergie first as I has misplaced them but very eager to try it out if it will work.

Thanks again to those whom contributed to the thread.

The Hopper's battery is listed as 24 v 8.5 Ah li-ion. It should work ok with the 200 watt rated Synergie Avanti.
