Hi All

New to this forum but my partner has had an electric bike for ages and has just had her old road bike converted as well.

Got a problem with the electric bike which is an old model Juicy Bike with a step through frame. The motor is in the back wheel.

The back wheel collapsed, the rim fractured, so took it to a local bike shop which got a new rim and rebuilt the wheel.

It worked fine briefly but now it stutters when I first turn the throttle, juddering the bike and even at maximum throttle it crawls along. It sounds whinier than it used to as well.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what it might be? Happy to supply further information but not sure what is needed.

New symptom.

When I turn the throttle, nothing happens unless I spin the back wheel slightly and then it keeps going.

Hi Jeff
sounds very much like the hall sensor connections have been poorly made when the rebuilt wheel has been connected back into the bike.
Check the motor connector plug is firm and its individual pins are all sound.
These motors are extremely robust and long lasting.

Hi Bob

Many thanks for the reply.

I've had a look at the connections. The small green wire into the multi-plug appeared to have a nick in it so I cut it, stripped both sides and wound it together. Didn't make a difference unfortunately. Still doesn't start without first turning the back wheel. All the other connections look sound as far as I can make out.

Anything else I can do.

It's probably easiest to give us a call. For now you should also check the same motor connections at the controller.
Where are you Nigel?
