Nice pics, I am jealous! :)

I see a couple of foldables, one with front and rear suspension, but with the "dahon" style fold.

Were there other foldables with the rear Brompton / Ori style?

I think there is a big difference between something made to look like or compete with be it Chinese or otherwise, and a fake item made to deceive with sub standard materials. Perhaps these fake items contaminate our perception of some good cheap gear!

Don't underestimate their capability. Their progress is unbelievably fast. Did you know that Wuxing, the company that made all those breakable throttles and crappy levers, now works with the Toyota Production System (TPS) in their factory. Their levers are now better than Tektro. If you don't know about TPS, do a Google search.

I was once advised that the Chinese would manufacture to whatever quality the customer specified.

Very true, this cheap Chinese crap syndrome is very much of our own making,if you negotiate down to the point where the quality suffers to meet the price you are prepared to pay,you will get what you pay for.
I have just finished attending the Shanghai cycle show and the Canton Fair and I must say that the Chinese have become very quality aware, much more so than in the past.

Have you been to different factories? Have you found better suppliers for motors and batteries? :)
And are you still in china?

I'm back now. Most of the stuff in the show was 250W to 500W. There was everything from the cheapest shopper bike to exotic carbon fibre ones. We visited some factories to look at motors and complete bikes. I think that you'll be seeing some very nice ones in the shops soon. I have to say that the new Oxygen one will be a stormer. It should be in the shops already, but the Chinese still can't be relied on for delivery dates. If anybody was quick-witted enough, they would have seen them on the Oxygen banner a few weeks back, but that's now gone. Life gets better and better.

problem with Chinese e-bikes are not as much due to the low quality the parts as the laziness of sellers who do the importation. The factories are quite flexible, they can produce bikes that experienced pedelecers like d8veh want to buy, you only have to ask and perservere until they deliver the right quality.

This comment seems spot on with what is happening in Barcelona: e-bikes are almost non-existent, because those who sell them, they really sell crappy products, and buyers believe e-bikes are that low quality product, so they do not buy them anymore.

In the UK it seems the average quality is higher.
