spoke attachement seems rather odd

hi all have ebc moter wheel the spokes at the moter end are threaded and bent in a L shape and held with dome head nuts and washers.
but there is a gap between base of nut and moter flange, this method of fixing seems odd to me, the moter flange has countersunk holes to take (normal spokes?)
I need to remove one spoke, as the spoke at the rim end is too long and would puncture the tube, these nuts are 5.5mm and out of the many sockets I own nothing fits.
had to purchase a whole set from maplins, also the side ive shown the socket does not fit correctly due to lack of space of moter housing.
still to get open ended spanner.
I can see after some time that nuts may work loose and be lost, or need constant attention

To solve the tightening problem, just buy a 5.5mm open ended spanner. Google it and it should bring up some places to buy one.

If you're concerned about the nuts loosening, then you could loctite them.

Is the wheel not double rimmed?

thanks have ordered 5.5 mm spanner, pretty sure it is double rimmed.
but there are gaps under most ot the 34 nuts ,not sure if this intentional or not.
I believe the spokes were inserted prior to moter outer case (held by 6 hex bolts) was attatched

ill contact ebc next week

I'm no expert, but the gaps might be there for a little flex in the wheel/spokes.
If they were rigidly in the motor casing, it might lead to stress breakages.

Contact EBC anyway and see what they say. Ask them to send a few replacement spokes too. Don't try to modify that longer one.

received today 7 speed cassette +tool to remove /replace freewheel from ebc,
also a note relating to this thread (do NOT undo or tighten the nuts they are Loctite bond during manufacture, and the gap is intentional.
the wheels are built by ebc not Chinese.
in relation to the longer spoke issue alan at ebc has offered to change the complete moter wheel for another and someone will pick up wheel from my home tomorrow morning and ill get another.

cant be fairer than that for service,
