Speedbox2 for Yamaha Haibike.

As I'm new to ebiking can anyone tell me if fitting a deresrictor like the speedbox2 to my Haibike with the Yamaha system damage the motor or electrics. At a comfortable pedal speed in 10th gear, I'm at 17mph just above the cut off for the motor. To get the motor to assist I have to select 8th gear to drop me to 14.5mph. 17 mph feels comfortable for the amount of pedal speed. I was wondering if de restricting the bike would make it so I could average 17mph with assistance, but I don't want to damage a brand new bike. In fact 20 mph max would suit me, I have read the speedbox gives you 30mph which I think is too fast.

a dongle will not damage the motor it just removes the speed limit had mine on my bosch bike for over 2 years now and not 1 problem.

speed will depend on what gearing you have but should hit the speed you want

The dongle won't damage the bike, but it will scramble the display which you may find irritating.

Bear in mind all the dongle does is allow the motor to carry on assisting above 15mph.

It does not tune the motor in any way.

It may assist to 30mph and above, but only if you pedal that fast, so you remain in control.

Rattling along at 20mph will increase battery consumption a lot.

Worth having a think about the length of journeys you want to undertake.

If 10th gear is top gear it sounds like you'll have to up the gearing quite a lot of you want to take advantage of a higher assist speed.

Yea thought about that. The new speedbox2 allows you to turn the restrictions on and off via the light button. I was thinking if I ride with the wife I could turn it off, then if I want some speed, turn it on. Apparently if off as a default so that would be OK. Only had the bike 3 weeks so a lot more riding to do yet. I'm loving it, now cycling is a pleasure not a chore.

if I can cruise at 17mph that's fast enough.....the fastest I've had is 28mph and that was pedalling flat out (looked a bit silly lol) but I'm in two minds whether to buy one. I think I will ride it a bit more until I get bored, by then they will have a speedbox3!! where you will be able to program your own speed, now that would be good.

you will get a bit less range if you increase the speed but on mine bosch over 25mph it just nukes the batt like constant steep climb in turbo.

tho in the lower settings you are not limited buy the speed limit so evens it self out.

i can drain a 400w batt in less than an hour if i ride round fast as i can go in turbo.

yea I was wondering that, but drawing that much out of the battery that quick cant be good for it???? I don't ride that fast anyway but like I said, it would be nice if you could program or ask if they could program a speedbox to 17mph as that would be quite fast enough on a bicycle. I travel much quicker on my motorcycle....lol.

its why if you get one you will use a lower setting but have no speed limit.

but like any batt the faster you drain it and charge it back up will not last as long but still get 25-30 miles with my old 400w batt thats over 2 years old now and have hamerd it but less range from when it was new.

Plug and play. No problems at all. The load on the motor and battery isn't affected by the speed. Battery life stays the same, and the information on the display shows the correct information after installation. Yes, I have been using it myself.

How fast are you able to comfortably cruise at without crazy fast pedaling?

Cool. I've been looking to possibly get one and been test riding. I'm in the US and ours are limited to 20MPH. I feel like it was pretty easy to maintain that and was looking for a little more speed. Not sure how easy it would be to cruise at 25MPH or so with the limit removed. Just trying to figure it out. Thanks for the info.

you will need a bigger front sprocket 18t or more. dongles lift the speed limit 2 50kph 35mph.

i have a badd ass dongle and get about 25 miles in turbo if i dont change modes.
