Hi all, I have a Specialized Creo and put it on diet to take out 1.5kg of weight. One of the items I looked to change was the front bolt thru. The Creo uses 110mm boost size from MTB, but instead of using 15mm axle, elected to use a 12mm instead. A search of the entire internet and this axle size does not exist !!!. I even asked ay Specialized and they could not get hold of the axles !!!! I wanted the allen key release version as the standard ones had levers and were quite heavy.
In my search, I tried an engineering company to see if they could make a one of for me. They could, but am Aluminium one was going to be over £300 and Ti was nearly double. So what did I do........I made one.
Basically I got a rear bolt thru at 142mm of the same thread pitch (p1.0) and cut the thread back to same as the front using a die. I then cut off the excess sticking out the back of the die and reversed the die back to ensure the thread was still good after the cut. Finally got a file and de-burred the edges to give a good engagement with the fork.
Well happy with the result and nice to do some proper engineering. Look very neat and lighter to boot.
