Sonic Grenade App!

Thursday evening after work, I was enjoying a couple of pints of ale in my local hostelry discussing the merits of the Alpino with a few interested parties ( 705se and ex-iZip trike owners) when one of our regulars chose to demonstrate/show off this new app on his phone. I should say at this stage say that every pub seems to have individuals like this (you know the sort I mean, friendly if misguided and an opinion on everything, even if you don't want to hear it.) Anyway, a few of us showed interest (foolishly as it happened) not knowing what the result would be. The bar staff both in their early twenties heard this and quickly disappeared into the other bar, I know why now!

I was standing about six foot away from this person when I was hit by this head splitting high frequency tone! Several other customers started complaining at the same time while grenade thrower was chuckling away to himself at our discomfort, after almost screaming at him to stop he finally got the message. Anyway, in my case the result was an almost instant migraine headache and the end to my evenings enjoyment! Even now on Monday morning, my left ear is still ringing and I was plagued by headaches all over the weekend, fortunately these have now abated.

I can't believe such apps have any purpose other than to cause discomfort and therefore, should they be banned? Do any other members of the forum have any experience of this and what are your views on the subject?

Regards,

Mike.

Footnote: Said person has been politely told that if in my presence he uses it again he will have a high frequency tone going off where the sun don't shine! I think he understands now!

Sounds horrible (quite literally, I imagine!)

As do the glut of Vu vu zela apps that have stormed their way to the top of the app charts...

No experience of it, but I fully agree with a ban. Hearing is our one sense that we cannot protect from unwanted experiences, we cannot shut our ears or adequately protect against sonic abuse. Therefore I'm in favour of legislation against all unnecessary noise with severe enough penalties to ensure the compliance of the irresponsible, the stupid and the unthinking.
