Well, my new Salisbury lasted five days before cutting out on me.
After a sweaty trip home I phoned Powacycle and was told to have a look at the wiring underneath the battery.
I did so (with some trepidation, having discovered screws were not where they were meant to be), but there were no obvious loose ends or frazzled wires.
Oddly, it worked for another half day, but then I had to gasp through an even sweatier trip home from work as it gave out again.
I'm now being sent a new charger to try. The man at Powacycle explained it's a process of elimination, so I suppose I just have to park the bike until it's sorted.

Sorry to hear this Falco, it's a first for Powacycle, as they were almost alone in having no faults reported in this forum.

I'll be very surprised if it's the charger causing this problem, so you may have a further test stage to go through to find what's wrong. I wouldn't mess about too much though, considering how new it is. If they don't give you the right answer quickly, insist on return for repair or replacement.

Thanks for advice, Flecc.
There's really only the charger and battery to try before the bike goes back, I suppose. Trust me to be an unwanted first...!

The Powacycle people sent me new charger.
I plugged it all in and, sure enough, the battery lit up its three LEDs for the first time ever.
However, when the battery went on to the bike - still nothing!
Awaiting next step from Powacycle....

As I thought, the charger was very unlikely. The battery is a possibility though.

That's a shame, the Powacycle man said when I told him the bike still wasn't working.
We'd better fix it for you in our workshop, he went on, explaining that I should pack it in its original box along with the battery, keys, original charger, replacement charger, instructions and tools (that won't take long - there weren't any).
Apologies for the inconvenience, he added.
Hmmm.
I'll keep you all posted!

Oh well, at least they're better than many others who are unwilling to do anything ever if they can help it. I've certainly had a good impression from two dealings with them.

You may even get tools second time round! :D

We sell a lot of these bikes and they are much more reliable than some other brands we have heard about!

If it's an LPX battery then the cutting out could be the battery, failing that are you sure the handlebar switch is in the 'on' position?

You could also check the brake levers are returning fully to their open position as they have circuit cutout switches in them that could be operating unintentionally.

Very true. I think it's commendable that after a year of this forum it's the only fault I've seen reported on a Powacycle. If only they were all as reliable.

Yeah, from what I've read here it seems I'm just very unlucky.
It's MiMH battery, by the way. I did try both the pedelec and twistgrip switch settings, but zero response.
Good point about the brakes, Jimblob, which hadn't occurred to me, although they seemed OK.
The bike's already in bits and back in the box, so I'll just let Powacycle give it the once over.
I appreciate the responses here - it reassures me I'm just unlucky rather than dealing with a poor product!

Yikes! I really didn't want to read about this! My Salisbury is being delivered next week - I hope it really is only a battery problem which can be rectified by a new one!

Anything else you choose might have many times more postings on troubles KidBriar. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Powacycle have a very good record in this respect.

Even the best product can suffer the odd unfortunate experience. When I spent almost £1500 on an e-bike and extra battery last July, the motor started failing at 100 miles and was unusable at 200 miles.

But it was sorted by the supplier, the complete motor wheel was replaced and it's been perfect for thousands of miles since.

I know, just a little jittery because its my first e bike and its not been delivered yet alone I've ridden it and I'm reading about problems. I am positive though and can't wait until next week when I can propertly test the bike.

You'll instantly forget all the worries when you're on the saddle and start riding it. Then it'll be all smiles! :)

Found a card from TNT collection driver when I got home today.
Reason for the card - I wasn't in to hand over the bike for delivery back to Powacycle.
Reason for not being in - Powacycle hadn't told me TNT were coming.
Not good. Emailed Powacycle tonight to tell them I wasn't happy - you'll all hear what they have to say for themselves right after I hear it myself.

TNT man came and collected the bike.
If only all service was as good.
I haven't heard a word from Powacycle.

That's good Falco, at least some progress is being made. Fingers crossed it continues now things are rolling.

It's a pity that forum member Carl Percival left Powacycle as he was always a reliable contact there for this forum.

Yeah, I suppose the bottom line is that I get my bike back up and running after the problems.
Keep cheering me up, flecc!!!!

Of course I will Falco! :)

In my long life I've had many such disappointments and over time have become blase about them, since they always get sorted in due course. So I just shrug and try to be helpful with the supplier in solving the problem, such co-operation almost always getting better results than bitter complaining.

My sense of humour being what it is, I usually manage to see the funny side of such events.

Still waiting...

Hello! Just in case you thought I was too busy enjoying myself out on my PowaCycle to post, I thought I'd give you an update on my sick Salisbury.
PowaCycle still have my bike!
After numerous emails and phone calls, the man who does the repairs (just one man?) was away at a show last week, so couldn't fix it.
He's away at another show this week, so he won't be able to fix it this week either.
So that's a month it will have taken to get it back on the road - always assuming that it does in fact get fixed and delivered next week.
I'd love to hear if other people reckon this standard of service is typical of the electric bike world...
