A couple of innocent posters in this section of the forum have recently fallen foul of vbulletin's optional censor list.
The words added to this list by admin would be best surrounded with curly brackets {thus}. Otherwise the clever vbulletin software replaces a portion of any word containing the string with asterisks to the confusion of well-intentioned posters. With curly brackets vbulletin only censors the exact word not the string.
Interestingly, you can find the location of threads containing censored strings by putting the censored string into the database search engine. Amazingly this still seems to throw up a thread even when the offending post has been hidden by admin and right back to 2008. So a record of the use of censored words is preserved for ever in the forum's database, even if you can't see the word.
I did not experiment with more than 3 or 4 words, then I found Lenny Bruce's 1966 9 word list: Seven dirty words - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Five words (4 distinct strings) from that list get censored.
Edit - just realised I missed another word that should have been in the title: the element with atomic number 33, ****nic.
