I have just inherited my dad's electric bike (this one https://momentumelectric.com/en/e-bikes/8-43-upstart-5060464190001.html). He bought it new in 2016 and hardly used it, just a very few miles on the flat once or twice a week (and not at all in the last couple of years although my sister took it out once in a while so it wasn't sitting completely unused). I live in Hastings, which is very hilly, and I find I can only do about 10 miles or even less before the battery has gone from 5 bars down to just one, which doesn't bode well for longer trips. It also does this thing where when I'm riding up a steep hill, it'll suddenly kick into a higher gear so it's much harder to pedal - surely going uphill, it should go down a gear, not up? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the battery or the bike itself. Any thoughts?
