I've recently bought a gazelle e bike with a steps e6000 motor with a potential fault with the motor. I bought the bike without the battery as the seller would rather keep it for another bike.

Does anyone know if it's possible to troubleshoot the motor issues without a working battery. I'd like to try to get this bike working again but don't want to commit to spending £300 on a new battery to find out the bike is beyond economic repair.

it is a bin job and unless you find a second hand motor and a bike shop to use there software to setup the motor it wont work

there also region locked so if you get a motor from say Germany it wont work on a uk bike dealers portal for the diagnostic software.

even oping the motor will mean it will software brick its self if you do not know what you are doing and its can bus coms system is locked and encrypted so fault finding will be impossible.

m8 has a canyon carbon bike with same motor and no matter how hard i have tried the only way to fix it is take it to a country where a second hand motor can be set up.

Madison will not even sell you a new uk motor as warranty replacements only! and there a 1000 quid not that you can get one

and thats why we call them shitmano motors unfixable renewable crap but only on new bikes

Within the UK we offer a full repair and overhaul service for Bosch, Brose, Impulse, Mahle, Panasonic and Yamaha ebike motors. Please note: We do not currently support Shimano motors.

Ah that's a bummer. Is it possible it could be a minor issue that can be fixed? Eg replacement sensor part.

For future ref, which motors are more repairable?

no one will touch any shitmano motor and you been sold a lemon you could try to find someone to make a motor mount for the frame with a different batt but it is not as simple as making a different motor fit to the bikes geometry and chain lines ect.

my bosch cx motor is 10 years old and serviced buy peter at said company if he wont service it then dont but it esp can bus locked systems as become money pits fast.

if i blow up my motor with stock bms he will fix it for free i have no speed limit :p

bigger balls wins every time :p

I think your e6000 is a different mounting bolt pattern to the later motors, which is a shame, because e5000, e6100 do appear on eBay from time to time.

Any more info on the motor issue?

My limited experience is that all you need is speed sensor, display and battery leads plugged in, no loose connection between battery and mount, and it just works.

If you were close by, I'd be curious enough to have a look, as I have spare displays, sensors and batteries.

that motor is the one where there is a bearing in the case that cant be replaced but a mounting kit could be made to fit the frame but doubt it would be worth it esp with the cost of there batts.

I'm based in Leeds. I'd be very grateful if there is anyone nearby who can help.

Going back to whatever you know or can find out about the problem:

Is there any info from the person you bought it from?

Can you feel any play in the crank, by grasping the inner end 9f the pedal and trying to move it up and down? Both sides. There should be none.

Is there any end float in the crank? Push it side to side to test this.

When you rotate the pedals forwards and backwards are there any noises, feeling of roughness etc?

I agree with @shockwave, any internal fault is terminal. If all the above tests do not show any issue, then probably worth trying to get to the situation of everything connected, trying to switch on, and see what appears on the display. But obviously a battery is needed for that.
