I wish the fire brigade would have an ebike expert that could get to the bottom of why these fires are occurring instead of blaming generic chargers and second-hand bikes. Did the bike belong to a Deliveroo rider or drugs runner? Was it being fast charged? Was it the wrong charger? What battery was it? Did it have a BMS?

They might struggle to identify the charger voltage and possibly even the battery cell configuration after the fire, so will be hard to pin down.

These news reports serve more than one purpose - the more times the basic safety issues and measures are mentioned the better.
