Schwinn/Protanium speed

I'm the owner of a Schwinn/Protanium bike. It's a 250w engine and a 10Ah battery. I'm driving 20 km to and from work almost every day. I have no problems covering that distance with the new battery and it's recharcing without problems during the workday.

My problem is the speed. It seems that the engine is shutting off at about 26km/h. It kind of frustrating because it's keeping me from pedaling more and instead I'm trying to find the maximum pedaling that stille keep the engine running. If only I could get som few ekstra km/h, I would be pedaling harder and get into better shape.

Do any of you know how to adjust the maximum speed on a Schwinn/Protanium, for testing purpuse ofcourse and only on my employers parking area.

It could only be with an alteration to the controller if it has a possibility of adjustment, but it's a very risky thing anyway with this bike. It uses the Tongxin Nano motor which has a bad reputation for failed controllers, both the standard one and the special Schwinn one. Your bike on test with A to B magazine suffered two failed controllers during their review and eventually gave the bike a thumbs down on the basis that more work was needed to get the controller side right.

Several members with Nano motors have suffered failed controllers, some more than one, so if your bike is running ok otherwise, I'd be inclined to leave it well alone.

However, this bike in the USA is set up for higher speed, about 30 kph, so maybe a mail to them could get advice. Here's the "Ask Schwinn" webpage where you can mail them a question:

I you look on the motor it should say what rpm it is, perhaps 160 or 190, that sort of figure. If it says 190 which, from memory, the a to b tester had then it has a little more speed in it, if you can adjust the controller (just under 30 kph). Like Flecc I would say if it is running well then I would leave it alone, especially if it only has 3 wires to the motor - the sensorless version with its unique and fragile controller.
