I have a 36v Samsung battery, 15ah I think which has stopped charging. The charger is putting out 42.3v so I reckon there must be a dodgy connection within the battery. Is there anything to beware of when opening up the battery?

check the voltage at the output port of your battery.
What is it?

.. and the charge fuse in the battery. Note that some batteries have two fuses - one for charge and one for discharge.

If you have a plastic sans type 2a charger you can adjust the voltage regulator by unscrewing the base/top cover.

Cant get any votage at the connector. Took the end cap off. Cant see any fuses. The positive and negative wires disappear into the main body of the battery. One positive goes to an indicator board along with a negative from the battery and two leds light up so I'm hoping the connector has failed somehow

Show us a pic of your battery most likely the discharge fuse has blown which is why you have no voltage reading.

The BMS will also switch off the charge port if it detects a fault or if it becomes faulty itself.

By BMS I presume you mean battery management system? One end of the battery contains the on/ off switch, charge connector and a little led circuit board . The other end has a fuse and output connector. Can't see any other circuit boards or fuses. The charger indicates green as if its charged or not connected.

The BMS is attached to the cell-pack, sometimes under the shrink-wrap. You need to tell or better still show us which battery you have for more specific help.

Have you removed and checked the fuse you can see ?
Some batteries need switching on to charge and for discharge voltage reading, also they are known now and then to be faulty.
Pictures are a great help to us as we can't see what you can see.

A green charger light can be lit for many reasons. As mentioned faulty BMS ( not an entirely common fault), broken sense wire (cell) or other bad wire joint,, unbalanced battery either a wayward low voltage reading or high cell string reading not allowing bms to switch on.
